Performance Characteristics of New Silicone Waterproof Coating

Silicone waterproof coating is a high-performance protective coating with high solid content, solvent-free, non-corrosive and high elongation, suitable for various building surfaces and roof substrates.

It is moisture-cured and reacts with water vapor in the air to form a film. After curing, it forms a durable, vapor-permeable, monolithic weather-resistant rubber elastomer, which strongly resists degradation caused by ultraviolet rays and natural weathering.

With excellent adhesion and compatibility, it is one of the products with the best weather resistance available today.


1. Penetration and Adhesion


The coating can penetrate into the shallow surface layer of concrete to form a dense waterproof membrane, effectively blocking water penetration.

It also bonds tightly with the substrate and provides strong adhesion to avoid peeling, achieving a true “skin-like waterproofing”.


2. Weather Resistance and Chemical Stability


The structural unit of silicone polymer is the Si-O-Si structure with high bond energy.

Groups attached to silicon atoms require high energy to break down, giving the coating excellent resistance to high and low temperatures (-60 °C to 165 °C) and acid-alkali corrosion.

The bond energy of the Si-O bond is higher than that of ultraviolet rays, so it is not easily decomposed by UV radiation.

It offers outstanding weather resistance and can be used long-term in harsh environments such as concrete roofs, metal roofs and chemical plants without aging or cracking.


3. Elasticity and Hydrophobicity


After film formation, the coating exhibits excellent elasticity and ductility, which are barely affected by ambient temperature.

It retains good performance even at -60 °C and can elastically deform with the thermal expansion and contraction of the substrate, effectively preventing water leakage at cracks.

In addition, due to the low surface energy of silicone combined with the micro-nano roughness of the coating surface, the coating provides a permanent “lotus leaf effect”, forming an excellent hydrophobic barrier.


4. Environmental Adaptability and Low Water Absorption


The coating cures normally at low temperatures without impairing overall performance and can be applied at -20 °C to 60 °C.

Its viscosity is minimally affected by temperature, so it can be used directly without preheating even in cold weather.

As an oil-based coating, it has strong anti-dispersion properties; rain within 1 hour after application will not affect curing or long-term performance.

It also features extremely low water absorption, effectively preventing damage to the coating from freeze-thaw cycles in winter.


5. Environmental Friendliness and Ease of Application


The coating uses a high-solid, solvent-free formulation, with VOC emissions far below national standards, making it an eco-friendly product.

It is a single-component material that requires no mixing before use and no complicated equipment.

Application can be flexibly carried out by spraying, rolling or troweling according to site conditions.

With a thick-bodied formulation, it allows single-coat thick application and does not sag even on sloped surfaces.
